Frequently asked questions

How does the quiz choose the models?

It starts from the collection for your dance, keeps the models in stock, then ranks them by your answers: heel height listed on the product page, inclusion in our extra comfort, wide feet, narrow feet or hallux valgus selections, price, level and sales. They are always real models from the catalogue, at today's price.

What heel height should I start with?

To start with, a heel of around 5 cm is a good compromise: it gives you poise while staying stable. A 7 cm heel lengthens the leg further, so it is best to wait until you feel comfortable in turns.

Do dance shoes fit like everyday shoes?

No: a dance shoe must hold the foot without any play, with the toe reaching the tip. Go by the length of your foot in centimetres rather than your usual size, and write to us if in doubt.

Can I wear my dance shoes outdoors?

Not if the sole is suede: tarmac damages it very quickly. Change into them when you arrive at class or at the social.

What if the pair doesn't suit me?

You have 30 days after receipt to change your mind, with the shoes tried on indoors only (return at your expense). Details in our returns policy.

How to choose your dance shoes: the 5 criteria

The quiz above applies these five criteria. If you prefer to choose yourself, here is what to look for on a product page, in this order.

1. Your dance and your floor

Salsa, bachata, kizomba, tango, ballroom and Latin dances are most often danced on parquet: a suede sole glides just enough to pivot without catching. It should not be worn outside, as asphalt will damage it. A rubber sole grips more: safer on a slippery floor, less suitable for pivots. To learn more: suede soles explained and salsa, bachata, kizomba: which shoe for which dance.

2. The heel height

A heel of around 5 cm offers the most stability for beginners. A 7 cm heel elongates the leg more, but requires being comfortable with turns. If your feet tire quickly, a small heel of 3 to 4.5 cm remains elegant. See high or flat heels in ballroom dancing and our low-heel selection.

3. Support

An ankle strap or laces keep the shoe on your foot during turns and weight changes. A shoe that moves tires the foot and causes you to lose your balance.

4. The size

Dance shoes should be worn fitted, with your toes just touching the front. Measure the length of your foot in centimeters and use the converter or our guide to choosing your size. Between two sizes, write us your measurement at contact@dansezo.fr.

5. Your feet

Sensitive, wide, thin feet or bunions: we have grouped the suitable models in dedicated selections, extra comfort, wide feet, thin feet and bunions. Our guides: sensitive feet, wide feet, bunions.
