Size Guide

Choosing the right size is essential to get the most out of your dance shoes. A size that is too tight causes pain, while a size that is too loose compromises stability and precision. In this guide, we explain how to measure your foot, understand international size conversions and adjust your size to each brand.

How to measure your foot

The most reliable method takes five minutes, at home:

  1. Place a sheet of A4 paper against a wall
  2. Stand with your heel against the wall and your foot flat on the sheet
  3. Mark a line with a pencil at the tip of your longest toe
  4. Measure the distance between the edge of the sheet (the wall) and the line, in centimeters
  5. Repeat with the other foot, and use the measurement of your longer foot to choose your size

Ideally, measure in the evening, when your feet are slightly swollen, and wear the socks or tights you plan to dance in.

Manufacturer chart (approximate): European size, sole length, Japan and China

This chart gives the inner sole length and the corresponding foot length according to the manufacturer. The Japan / Korea column is an estimate rounded to the nearest half centimeter. It is approximate: the best reference remains the length of your foot, measured at the end of the day with your heel against a wall. Allow about 0.3 to 0.5 cm between your foot and the sole.

EU / CN size Sole length (cm) Foot length (cm) Japan / Korea (estimate)
34 22 21.7 21.5
35 22.5 22.2 22
36 23 22.7 22.5
37 23.5 23.2 23
38 24 23.7 23.5
39 24.5 24.2 24
40 25 24.7 24.5
41 25.5 25.2 25
42 26 25.7 25.5
43 26.5 26.2 26
44 27 26.7 26.5
45 27.5 27.2 27

In Japan and Korea, the size corresponds to the foot length in centimeters (in millimeters in Korea: 23 cm = 230). In mainland China, the European size is the most commonly used on dance shoes.

Adjusting your size to the model

Size equivalents differ between brands and sometimes between models of the same brand. Universal recommendations for sizing up or down are therefore not reliable. Check the supplier's measurements when they are available, or contact us for help choosing.

Tips by dance style

  • Ballroom dancing: Choose a snug shoe, with no space at the heel. Your toes should just brush the end.
  • Salsa and bachata: A snug fit as well, so you don't slip during fast moves.
  • Dance sneakers: You can take your usual size, or even +0.5 for comfort.
  • Heels: Favor a perfect fit, especially for high-heeled models.

Good to know

Why dance shoe sizes are different

Dance shoes run smaller than street shoes. The reason: your foot must be held snugly to transmit your weight changes precisely. In a street shoe you have 1 to 2 cm of room in front of your toes; in a dance shoe, your toes sit right at the end.

When to change size

A well-fitted dance shoe should fit firmly while remaining comfortable. If your toes hurt after 30 minutes, it is too small. If your foot slides sideways, it is too big.

Frequently asked questions

What should I do if I am between two sizes?

Measure both feet and compare the measurements with those of the model when they are available. There is no rule that applies to all shoes; if you are unsure, ask us for advice.

My two feet are not the same size, how do I choose?

Choose the size of your longer foot. A slight difference can be offset with an insole or a cushion for the smaller foot.

What if the size doesn't fit?

See our return and refund policy for the applicable conditions and the steps to follow.

Are there half sizes?

Yes, some of our models come in half sizes (35.5, 36.5, 37.5, etc.), for example Gerbera, Anémone or Pablo. The available sizes are shown on each product page.

What about wide or narrow feet?

See our wide feet and narrow feet collections: these models are designed with suitable widths.
