Learn more about this collection
For rock, swing and lindy hop, you move through quick passes, turns and kicks: you need a closed shoe that fits securely on the foot, with a low heel and a sole that allows you to pivot. We have gathered lace-up or strap models here, for women and men, with a heel of approximately 3 to 5 cm.
Choosing the right shoes for rock and swing
- The heel: low and wide, around 3 to 5 cm for women, flat or almost flat for men. It maintains balance during quick passes.
- Support: laces, T-strap or instep strap. The shoe must not move during turns.
- The sole: suede or smooth leather, to pivot without catching. Avoid lugged rubber.
- The style: oxfords, two-tone derbies or strap babies: the retro look of swing nights.
All our advice in the women's rock shoes guide and in West Coast Swing shoes.
Frequently asked questions
What heel height is suitable for dancing rock?
A low heel, between 3 and 5 cm for most dancers, and flat or almost flat for men. Any higher and balance becomes difficult during quick passes and kicks.
Can you dance lindy hop in sneakers?
Many dancers do, provided the sole allows you to pivot: a sports sneaker sole catches too much. A shoe with a suede or smooth leather sole makes swing outs and turns easier.
What is the difference between rock and salsa shoes?
A salsa shoe often has a higher heel and an open sandal design. For rock, a closed shoe and a lower, more stable heel are preferred for jumping steps.
